India

India during the 19th century
In India when the 19th century started, was when the British rule there was recognized as The Raj, which means king, which marked the end of the control by the East India Company. During this time the form of government was a Successive viceroy in India and secretaries of state in London were appointed on a party basis, having little or no direct experience of Indian conditions and they strove to serve two masters. The Government of India combined a policy of co-operation and conciliation of different strata of Indian society with a policy of coercion and force.
The great rebellion came in 1857 where the soldier’s sepoys were angry because of a rumor that their rifles were greased with the fat of cows and pigs and they revolted against British rule, one year later the rebellion ended with the support from Indians loyal to the British crown.
In 1877 the Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli declared Queen Victoria the Empress of India.
The economy in India was somehow in stability during the British Raj, while the UK´s economy growth.
Thanks to the events of the rebellion the Indian nationalism grow, leading to the opening of the Indian National Congress in 1885, during the following years nationalism in India grow until in 1947 India gain its independence.

This obviously help to the democracy because even tough India in the 19th century was under the rule of Britain it led their people to want their own government without a monarch, and made it more national and that helps to the democracy in way. (Kaul, 2015), (McNamara, 2015), (Lambert, 2015).

China

China during the 19th century

By the 19th century, district magistrates at the lowest level of the Chinese bureaucracy were responsible for the welfare, control, and taxation of an average of 250,000 people. This left control and responsibility for government increasingly in the hands of local leaders.

In the West of China a series of natural catastrophes and man-made disasters hit China in the late 19th century. Many rebellions took place in the later part of this century; for example the moslem rebellions that took place over 1855 to the year 1873, and the Taping rebellions that took place from 1851-1864. During this rebellion they take control of a large portion of China.
